A Questionable Halloween Costume

Happy Halloween, all!

So last Saturday, Tim and Steph had the annual Halloween party, and this year’s theme was comic characters.  After much thought, I ended up going as The Question.

Not Rorschach

Apparently, nobody else has ever heard of him, which led to my inadvertently winning this cool trophy for “Most Obscure Costume”:

Obscure? But I'm In The Justice League!

For those curious to learn more about this under-rated character, Wikipedia, as always, has a good article.  Also, you can check out his best moments from the animated Justice League Unlimited series here.

Later in the week, it was time to carve pumpkins at Darren and Whitney’s, and I finally go a chance to do the Lain Iwakura jack o’lantern I’ve been wanting to do for a few years now.  Some of the details from my sketch got lost in the carving stage; it’s easier to work in pencil than in pumpkin.

Packing Up

ConnectiCon 2009 is now history.  It was a good time.  They continue to expand, and it’s a much better fit than it was when they first started in the Connecticut Convention Center; much less crammed in than it was in 2006.  Having the screenings going 24 hours a day was a plus, as some animes just work best at 2:00 AM.  The con ran about 58 hours, and I figure I was there for just about half of them.  Getting the all-weekend parking pass, while expensive, made all the difference.

Got my ticket for 2010 already, just a year – no, wait, it’s earlier next year – just 11 months away!

It’s Alive!

Downtown Hartford, that is.

Edit: Names changed to protect the innocent.

Not Connecticon

Not Connecticon

Taking a break from Connecticon, around 8:00 tonight, I saw all the excitement going on over at the riverfront, so I wandered over to the Caribbean festival, and it was packed.  If Hartford’s got multiple events like these going on on one weekend, things must be looking up.

Left the Con before Midnight tonight, but only because nothing could have topped the last three hours.  I went to the con hoping to see some good anime, but seeing bad anime can sometimes be so much more fun.  The folks assembled in Screening Room 3 proceeded to give the full MST3K treatment to Alien Nine and Narutaru.  Believe me, they had it coming.

Connecticon Update, Saturday Morning

Stuck around the con until about 3:30. Saw Rune Soldier, which wasn’t bad, and a home made, live action Cowboy Bebop film, which wasn’t good. Up at 8:30 this morning for more (caffeine is awesome). Killing time at the AMV screenings before a lecture on Japanese folklore.

Connecticon, Friday Evening Update

Well, the dealers’ room is pretty much the same as it is every year, although they are selling a game based on Space Pirate Amazon Ninja Catgirls, and really, how can you go wrong with that combination. ‘Coyote Ragtime Show’ was good, may have to seek out more. Now back to Manchester for a cigar sale, then out to Windsor for the Captain’s 31st.
